WAG PARTNER RESCUES
WAG is open to partnering with different rescues from around the world, including here at home and abroad.
WAG was contacted by the Soi Dog Foundation as a potential candidate to re-home dogs rescued from the meat trade in Thailand.
We are thrilled to have been approved as an adoption agency for this special organization and will continue to take dogs when there is sufficient space at WAG.
This will never affect our ability to welcome and care for local animals in need in our own community. The funding for these dogs will come from WAG’s own fundraising efforts through a specific fundraising campaign, and they have already been spayed and neutered.
SOI DOGS AT WAG
WAG is honored to have had five Soi Dogs join us at WAG; Reece, Petal, Benji, Panther, and Frang.
It took me no time to settle into life at WAG, I am a very easy going, goofy boy! I love treats and super soft beds, and am an excellent office dog, as I also love to nap!
Petal wears the scars of a horrible past, both literally (she is missing an ear!) and in her shy behavior. She is very timid, but still always remains very sweet and gentle.
I am very affectionate and sweet and like nothing better than sitting quietly by the lake. I am excited to meet the volunteers at WAG and see the lakes in Canada!
Though Benji was shy when he first arrived at WAG, he has since turned into a goofy, playful little monkey! Chewing through leashes and running around with a stuffed animal are two of his favorite hobbies...
Shy and reserved at first, Reece slowly came out of her shell and showed us her true character, and what a character she was! This princess refuses to walk in the rain but is still enjoying her life with her new family in Vancouver.
THE SOI DOG FOUNDATION
“Soi Dog Foundation is a not-for-profit, legally registered charitable organization in Thailand, the United States, Australia, the UK, France, and Holland. Soi Dog helps the homeless, neglected and abused dogs and cats of Thailand, works to end the dog meat trade throughout the region and responds to animal welfare disasters and emergencies.”
The Soi Dog Foundation strives to help dogs of Asia through multiple ways:
THAILAND'S ILLEGAL DOG MEAT TRADE
"Every year tens of thousands of dogs are inhumanely transported from Thailand to neighboring countries where they are butchered by cruel and barbaric methods. However, the Soi Dog Foundation and the Thai government are actively working to end this appalling practice.
The conditions under which the dogs are transported and slaughtered are inhumane and many die from suffocation long before they reach neighboring countries. In reality, these are the lucky ones.
Those that are still alive are not humanely killed many are tortured often for hours before being skinned alive. The reason for this is that people believe that the pain inflicted leads to the tenderizing of the meat. Most shocking of all is that some dogs are still alive when their fur is removed.
However, progress is being made. Soi Dog with other animal welfare groups has presented draft legislation to the Thai Parliament for strong animal welfare laws to be enacted.
This tragic trade is condemned by the majority of Thailand’s population. However, the practice still continues. Only through your help can this inhumane action stop.
Since active campaigning was begun in late 2011 more arrests of smugglers have occurred than during any time in the past."
