Youth Volunteers

There are usually 2 positions available at a given time. The details and requirements of the program are below. Volunteer Position – Youth Animal Welfare Program  

Purpose:

The Youth Animal Welfare Program at Whistler Animals Galore (W.A.G.) is designed to aid in the care of the animals by completing assigned cleaning and other tasks. It is also designed to educate both the student as well as the community through an advocacy project.

Youth Volunteer 

Responsibilities:

The Youth Volunteer position may involve (will vary week to week):

  1. General socialization and enrichment with suitable shelter dogs and cats
  2. Assisting with feeding of dinner
  3. Doing dishes
  4. Doing laundry
  5. Other cleaning (May include window washing/dusting/etc)
  6. Assisting staff with any other tasks needed
  7. Advocacy/Fundraising Project

Time:

The position will be an afternoon shift from 3:30-5:30 PM, between Monday and Thursday (subject to staff availability). It will require a minimum of 1 shift each week for at least 6 weeks. NOTE: This program is only available from September to April.

Qualifications:   

Eligible candidates must be 14 years of age (Grade 8) or over, and will of course have a love of animals. They should also have a willingness to learn and must be able to follow all directions given to them by staff.

Support Provided:

Training for this position will be an initial hour-long orientation/training session. You will work directly with the volunteer coordinator for each shift afterwards.

More About The Club:

Once you have completed 6 weeks of volunteering and your project has been turned in, you will be eligible for graduation. You will receive a certificate of completion and a letter for your resume.

The cost of the program is $50 to cover our resource and material expenses.
