My story:
Hello, I'm Rory!
I came into WAG’s care alongside my mom, Lorelai, and all of my buddies. Before that, we were rescued by the wonderful LAAS (Lillooet Animal Advocate Society). I arrived at WAG last summer and have recently been brought to a foster family! They have given the following update;
"Rory took a few weeks to relax. She really needs a quiet environment and to be with people who move around the space slowly. She was easily startled and quite skittish to begin with, especially in the first two weeks, but a little less so by the third. She was a rockstar from day one using her litter tray. We found cat tv was a good distraction for her so that she’d be less sensitive to the unpredictable movements of the humans around her. The more confident and comfortable she’s gotten, the less we’ve utilized it, as she’s gotten less skittish and wary. Rory loves company. Even in the beginning, when she needed space and to learn to trust us, she still followed us around (keeping her distance). If you were on the bed, she was under the bed. If you were in the kitchen, she would arrange herself to sit on the other side of the room so she could watch from a safe distance, all that you were doing. As trust was gained she closed the gap further and further until she became a true shadow.
She loves to be near you and taking part in whatever you’re up to. Winning her trust and love has been one of the most rewarding fostering experiences thus far. Plus she has the CUTEST little meows.
Rory will sit/lie patiently on the bed with you in the morning until you’re ready to rise and feed & entertain her. If you extend a hand to give her a pat during this time, she’ll reward you with loud, thundering purrs and to show she’s hungry, she’ll lick your hand or arm and stand up and flop her body back against your legs as a fun nudge to say “hey, it’s morning, time to get up!”.
Rory has been very adaptable with her routine. She will eat dinner and sleep for most of the evening, waking around 10/11pm hoping to play and burn off some energy before the humans head to bed. When she sees us brushing our teeth she’ll meow and make us follow her to the bedroom and jump up onto the bed, eager for some pre-sleep pats and maybe a tussle with a foot or hand moving beneath the duvet. She’ll snuggle as we drift off and then take herself back out to the toys to have a solo play. When we wake in the morning she’s happily snuggled up against our legs waiting to give the signal that she’s ready for breakfast- licks and gentle bites of your hand along with big body flops.
Rory loves to play with a wand toy and especially loves to snip the rope with her teeth, it’s her FAVOURITE pastime. She also loves to ravage and tear apart whatever soft toy has been affixed to the end of the string. Rory loves food. She’ll come running at the sound of a bag of treats crinkling and will seek out and tear open any plastic bag left within reach, hoping to find a tasty reward. She’ll rarely walk away from an unfinished bowl of food, but she definitely has her favourites when it comes to wet food flavours. She poops regularly and prefers you remove it as promptly as possible from her litter tray (it is a powerful odor!).
If you’re home during the day, Rory will avoid sleeping so that she can keep up with whatever you’re busying yourself with. She’s always up for a play or to simply sit with you."
