About Me:
November 2023
I have now been in my current foster home with the best paw-parent in the world for over 3 months, initially whilst I was healing from my TPLO surgery and since they we’ve settled into a great routine ever since. My foster mom is so kind and caring, she has been looking after me so well and keeping me happy and healthy as I await my forever home. Whilst I have had a few applications, my adoption process hasn’t been the most straight forward as I likely have more medical needs in my future moving forward unfortunately. Fingers crossed I’ll be finalised soon!
October 2023
I had fun with my foster mom and we had a pumpkin photoshoot! I’m loving going on adventures and meeting new friends. I love it when she has visitors as it means more cuddles, pets and attention on me!
It has been several weeks since my successful TPLO surgery and WAG is extremely thankful to my loving foster families who have helped me every step of the way! It has been a lot of hard work on their end (and mine!) including exercises, restrictions, medications, woundcare and keeping my days full of love and fun whilst I have been healing. I am excited for my next steps and am hopeful that my forever family will find me soon and give me the home I deserve for the rest of my days.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our supporters and generous donors who have made this surgery possible via WAG’s Critical Care Fund. Hunter is just one of many special cases this year, and thanks to you he has been given a second chance. Now all he needs is a family to call his own!
************************************************************************************************
Hi I’m Hunter and I am on the HUNT for my forever home after being brought to WAG as a stray. I am a very sad boy as I was used to living in a home but my old owner didn’t come back to claim me so I need to start all over again. I have recently been to Pemberton Vet for a general health checkup and to make sure my vaccines were up to date. Whilst there they also investigated an old injury affecting one of my back legs, to advise further action on that so my quality of life can improve with a plan moving forward. XRAY’s showed that I have a left CrCL tear and also quite possibly a right partial CrCL tear too. The radiographs were sent to our specialist at Points East West and surgery was recommended on one leg to start with, to allow me to return to my previous healthy active lifestyle. However as I am a high energy active dog, I will not be impressed about needing downtime in order to recover post surgery and insure its success. The humans are working out the details at the moment, including fundraising for the cost of the initial expensive first TPLO surgery and all of my aftercare needs. In the meantime I have been prescribed a pain medication and antiflammatory to help me feel better.
Now we’ve got the serious stuff out of the way, would you like to get to know me better? Of course you do! I am a big lovebug with a kind soul, I adore cuddles, kisses and being around the staff. It’s fun when I go out for walks with my friends at the shelter and am working on my loose leash skills and learning not to jump up when I am extra excited. I’m verrrry strong and keen to chase squirrels in the woods on occasion. I have also shown a little too much interest in the cats at the shelter so I should be adopted into a home with no small animals. I seem to quite like dogs, but havn’t had the chance to play with the other residents as I needed the all clear from the vet first due to my leg and unknown recent vaccine status.
I have made lots of friends at WAG, and although my heatbrearking arrival wasn’t planned and prepared for, WAG can’t wait to help me find a new home and recieve the life changing specalist injury treatment I deserve. Having been turned away by other organisations – I am being given a second chance via WAG’s Critical Care Program.
This fund (made possible via donations from their generous supporters) enables WAG to help those who have nowhere else to turn. Sadly this means occasionally animals from elsewhere are abandoned in this jurisdiction due to desperation that can come from becoming unhoused and personal circumstances changing.
After already being rehomed once due to no fault of my own, what I REALLY need next is a stable home committed to me and ready to give me a life with love and adventure for the rest of my years, who will be procative with my health and understanding of my recent instability. Some basic training with a WAG approved positive reinforcement trainer might be beneficial whilst I brush up on my previous skills. APPLY FOR HUNTER!
– A family with a lot of love to give me for the rest of my life – A family who will keep my health in mind and be proactive with my medical care, whatever that may include moving forward. This has already included recovery, medication and rehab as a TPLO surgery was performed by the specialists. My other leg is being monitored. -Is willing to take a couple of trips to WAG/ my foster home to get to know me before taking me home. I have had a lot of changes before coming to WAG and am a little unsure at times. – Understanding that a lot of things are new to me, I may need time to adjust to my new surroundings. – Understanding that if I am expected to live with resident dogs or older children, that introductions must be taken slowly to make sure I am comfortable and kept safe. – Be proactive with my training, using a WAG approved trainer that will help me continue to gain confidence and give my family the tools they will need. -Having a safe & secured yard would be a bonus for morning zoomies! If not, being okay with using a long line to allow freedom but keep me safe. -Will love me forever no matter what, quirks and all! Remember I am not a young puppa anymore but I have the biggest heart and will be your best friend.
My Story:
I was brought to WAG by a RMOW Bylaw officer after a report came in that I had been left tied to a post in a park in Whistler. Not much is known about my life prior, just that I was a member of a family and was used to a life inside the home. I was neutered when I was younger and had my initial series of vaccinations, however I have been living with a leg injury which has now be treated via WAG’s Critical Care program. I have spent the last few months in foster homes where they have helped me with my rehab and showed me so much love.
If you are not in a position to adopt but would like to support WAG, please consider donating to our Critical Care Program to help Hunter receive the surgery and post surgical medical care he needs! DONATE TO HUNTER’S CRITICAL CARE FUND! Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.
