Major Critical Care Update!

WAG has had an extremely busy and emotional past few weeks with animals in critical medical condition.

We have been so busy caring for them around the clock, we have not even had the chance to tell you about them all!

We would like to take this time to introduce you to them and tell you their stories…

Meet the “Tree Pups”; Birch, Willow, Spruce, Aspen, Douglas Fir, and Cedar…

Our newest litter of 6 puppies (our Tree Litter) has tested positive for Parvovirus Parvovirus is extremely contagious and potentially fatal.

WAG staff and volunteers are working hard around the clock syringe feeding, giving fluids and medication to these sad pups, and thanks to this care, so far they are recovering well.

A special thank you to Eagleview Veterinary Hospital for taking in the sickest of the litter and nursing them back to health!

The cuties will be up for adoption soon! If you think you might be the right match for one of these special babies, watch our website!

Making sure your companions are up to date with their vaccinations is the number one way to keep them safe. If you think your pup has Parvovirus contact your Veterinarian immediately.

Found sick, alone, and freezing in a container…here is Moses’ Story…

This sweet puppy was found just last week on someone’s porch in the bottom a rubber bucket barely alive. He was skin and bone, bleeding and unable to even lift his head. The person who found him called the Vet and WAG immediately and WAG staff met the caring citizen and rushed Moses to the Twin Trees Veterinary Emergency Clinic. He was in such bad condition, we thought he had passed away on the way to vet. Dr. Lopez and her team revived him and worked tirelessly around the clock to keep him alive.

The next morning, we were all so relieved to hear he was awake! Moses was still unable to regulate his heart rate so to save his life, he needed to stay connected to IV medication and be transferred to a hospital in Vancouver that had 24-hour care. WAG staff drove him to Canada West Veterinary Specialists where the Canada West team met us in the parking lot and whisked Moses away to continue his care and diagnostics. Though we were all relieved to hear he did not have to have surgery, Moses was still in critical condition, and it was decided that he would stay at Canada West for a few days. We are so happy to announce that Moses is gaining strength every day and the Canada West team has fallen in love with him! Moses was extremely malnourished and ill, and almost died alone in a bucket, but thanks to the care of his rescuer, our staff and volunteers, and his entire medical team, he is making a miraculous recovery!

We can’t thank the amazing Veterinarians who have worked together to save Moses’s life…

It is with great sadness that we would like to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our sweet Ginger…

Ginger was already 10 years old when he was surrendered to WAG. His beloved original owner had passed away, and since being diagnosed with diabetes, he had no one to care for him. Unlike other shelters, WAG welcomed Ginger, despite his medical conditions. This handsome boy received a much-needed haircut and was put on a diet while he began his insulin treatment. Ginger was always happy and gentle, and did not mind his daily insulin injections one bit! Because he had been doing so well, it was shocking when staff found him unconscious on Saturday, September 29th. He was rushed to Coast Mountain Veterinary Services where he received immediate emergency medical attention. Though he was stabilized, he was still in critical condition and needed 24-hour care, so the decision was made to transfer him to another clinic. WAG staff rushed him to Squamish but had another relapse on the way. He was again stabilized at Eagleview Veterinary Hospital, but unfortunately passed away later that night, never fully regaining consciousness. We are heartbroken and wish we could have done more for him.

A Hollow Tree Candle has been lit in his memory at WAG.

Every little bit helps and goes directly in the care of our Animals.

Currently, at WAG we have 11 animals in our care using our Critical Care Fund.

We have had a total of 22 Critical Care animals come to WAG this year alone.

We would not be able to offer this life-saving program without your support!

Thank you for your support.
